You see these hands on doors all over France. I’ve seen them in other European countries as well. At first I thought maybe it represented the hand of Aphrodite holding an apple but I think I over-analyzed the whole thing. It’s just a hand to knock on the door for you. It’s always a feminine hand though. I’ve never seen a masculine thick hand on a door. This one has a ring too.

This one is pretty. Look at the decorative cuff at the top of the hand.

This knocker was on a door in a Corsican village. I love the peeling paint with the elegant hand in the middle.

  1. I adore the detail shots you keep posting.

I’ve never seen these types of knockers myself, in France or anywhere else, but they’re absolutely charming! I saved that last picture to my decorating inspiration folder; one day I hope to find something just like it.

  2. I live in the states and have spent 2 & 1/2 years in Asia and have never in my life seen anything like this.

So I’m a little mesmerized by them and want to continue looking and gazing upon them. I just know I’ll be back for another look soon!

  3. I’ve always wondered why they do the kiss thing at all….to me it seems so personal…maybe just my “American” ways.

Love the linens………I’m big on those too.
