Doll Museum

I am not really into dolls and don’t collect much of anything really. I used to collect picture frames when I traveled but don’t have the room for them anymore. I saw the Doll Museum-Musee de Poupee-across the street from one of the entrances to the Luxembourg Museum and had a look in the windows. There is a collection there of over 500 antique dolls. I’ve never gone in to look at it. There is a fee to do so by the way.

Look at her elegant dress.

A close up of her face.

Aren’t these called kewpie dolls?

  1. I just read a book (The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton) where one of the characters calls another his poupée. I collect fine bone china tea cup, saucer and cake plate sets. They aren’t just for looking at, I use them all.

  2. I agree that collections are a lot of work. Maybe you collect photos or stories that you share with us, rather than things. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I’m so glad you posted about this! This is a place I have been wanting to visit in the city since I read about it some time ago. O don’t really collect anything, either, but the little kid in me cannot resist looking at dolls, and the historian in me likes to see things from years gone past. I will have to check this out…

  4. Oh my I haven’t seen a Kewpie in ages.
    Thanks for the memories.
As we get older collecting turns into selling off and giving away, but I do like dolls.

  5. My mother-in-law and her 2 other sisters had a giant doll collection. What one bought the other two bought! Good thing there are three boys in the family since the wives split it equally!! I have several different collections, teapots, dolls now, and I do love books! Yet as I get older I’m not collecting as much. Probably after seeing what the 3 sisters collected made me stop!!!
I hope that you and yours have a Happy and Healthy New Year!
