If you are a follower of the Tour de France bike race you have probably seen Mont Ventoux, although they didn’t ride there this year. We were in the area and my husband, a follower of bike races and a biker himself wanted to see it.

After driving through lavender fields and then through green forests you end up at the top with absolutely no vegetation and it feels like you are on the moon.

This radio tower is at the top with a few souviner shops.

Maurice at the top dreaming of doing the bike ride himself. He just may do it. We saw a whole lot of bikers and a few joggers too. Me? I will meet Maurice where he stops in the car.

When I saw the first photo I thought it was of a desert! Very barren indeed.
How nice to see a picture of your husband; its nice to have a face to put with the name.
I thought it was the desert too!! Such an strange environment to come across.
As above .. yes now we know who Maurice is
Good thinking, Linda. Meet him at the top. On one of our trips when we were biking, Earl told me about a ride around Mont Ventoux. Of course, the ride wasn’t around it was actually much of the way up. I stalled on one of the inclines and Earl had gone on ahead. An older guy was riding past and he encouraged me to keep going “Tout doucement.” So I drafted him until we reached the “moonscape.” Earl still teases me that I thought the ride would be around Mont Ventoux.
Linda, I have a better idea. Drive him to the top with the bike and then let him ride DOWN the mountain. I have a hunch it would be a much more enjoyable ride.
What a handsome Frenchman you’ve got yourself! He looks very fit, so I’m sure he could make that trip.
That would be some ride to the top, I think you’ve got the right idea meeting him up there
Lovely to catch up again after sooo long being away from ‘blogland’.
Mum and I want to do le Tour as well, only we’ll drive, walk and sit in cafés
Wow! That does look like the moon!
I love how I learn about other places in France from your travels. Thank you for sharing all that you do!
Fascinating!
I am missing my late night Tour de France TV watching !
Oh well, next year will come quicker than I would like to think
When we were biking in the Luberon last year, Olof wanted to climb Ventoux but had no takers.
So if Maurice wants a buddy, he’s on.
You can I can drive and cheer them on.
A rare picture of Maurice. Bit steep for a bike ride eh!
Loved all these photos on catching up with your posts, especially Provence.
