And Beyond

After a week in Rab, we headed toward home going through the section of Croatia known as Istria. I didn’t know a thing about it, but using my guide book, I picked out two places that looked interesting.

To leave Rab, you have to take a ferry. We opted to take several to get to the southeast of Istria. It was nice not to have to do a lot of driving but taking three ferries as we did was still tiring. I took this photo early the morning before we boarded our first ferry. The bay was so calm, it looked like the surface of a lake.

The first stop was Pula. We stayed outside of the city in a little resort area the first night right by the sea. The next morning we went into Pula to see the Roman ruins, among them this wonderful amphitheatre.

My guide book said to be sure to take a look at the interior of the main post office and just look at the staircase there. So unexpected. It was built in the 1930’s.

There was a little arch de triomphe leading into a very nice pedestrian area. Overlooking the city were also the ruins of a forum.

We found a huge market there full of fruit, vegetables and fish.

And honey. I liked the way the sun was shining through these jars of honey.

  1. It looks like you chose well in the places to visit. That staircase looks ultra-modern and the market looks like it could have been in France.
