We’ve been to Corsica once before and really liked it. It’s still very wild and pretty much undeveloped with narrow curving roads along the rocky coast and just one highway going across the middle of the island. It’s closer to Italy than France but is nevertheless French and Napoleon was from there. Christopher Columbus is also said to have been born there in Calvi, where we stayed.

Here Corsica is from up above in the plane. Look at the color of that water. Isn’t it fabulous?

A look at the harbor from a shop window in Calvi.

A view of the citadel across the water.

We rented a car one day and went down the coast. Incredible views all along the way.

We were there on Bastille Day, July 14th, and there were fireworks. So much fun.

  1. Beautiful pictures, and that water color is really spectacular. As nearly as I can tell, Columbus had birthplaces the way Washington had places he slept. There’s also a local legend in Mallorca that CC was from there. 🙂

  2. I spent a month in Corsica and it features prominently in my new novel. Love seeing your photos and that water looks just as blue up close, doesn’t it?
