A Pleasnt Surprise

I was showing a friend around the main village of Ile de Ré called Saint Martin. There is one place that has always intrigued me there, a hotel called le Corps de Garde. It is actually a sort of bed and breakfast and it’s always locked so people like me can’t walk in and look around. So, I was showing my friend how cool it was with interesting decorations and we were standing there looking through the window in the door when a voice said behind us, “Excuse me”. An older man was standing behind us wanting to get in. I said in my American way, “Are you staying here?” And he replied that he was so I asked him how he liked it and he replied, “Well, it’s quirky.” Then, to my surprised he asked if we wanted to come in and look at the lobby. Of course we did! I finally got a chance to see the inside.

This was the main lobby. There was another smaller one too. It wasn’t quirky to me but shabby chic.

I wish I had a window like this to put a sailboat in.

The coat rack by the door.

An arrangement on the other side of the door. I love places decorated like this but have never been able to duplicate it.
