The Other Direction

We are out on Town Lake just about every day and usually do just one section but went the other direction the other day and really liked it.

Trees and smooth water.

They’ve built the trail out over the water in several places.

The Congress Bridge is famous for the colony of bats living underneath. They come out at night to hunt for food (bugs) during the summer before returning to Mexico and there are huge groups of people to watch them. I hope to do it myself before either they leave or we do.

As we were walking this butterfly came and rested on Maurice’s hat for several minutes.

Where we stopped is this statue of Stevie Ray Vaughan, a famous Austin singer, now dead. I had a very strange experience here. A girl was sitting at the base of the statue right in the way of any photo and I asked her in a friendly tone of voice if she would mind moving so I could take a photo. She was reading her phone, slowly looked up and just sat there looking at me. At first I thought she didn’t speak English then, with a dirty look she slowly stood up and walked to the side. I took my photos and said thank you and she returned to her seat without a word. Very strange and it made me angey after I walked away. I guess I will necer know what her story was.

  1. What a beautiful lake, beautiful photo. What a strange girl. Also, that gorgeous butterfly on Maurice’s hat: a sign from someone who’s there with you?
