Interesting! That's not like Moroccan couscous.
In Mauritania, the couscous was made by hand and it was about that size, but brown, made from millet. I didn't like it cuz it inevitably had "l'epice de Mauritanie"--sand--in it.

They were serving this once at a conference I went to - it was the vegetarian option on the small buffet. I asked them what it was and after a lot of conferring in the kitchen they finally came out and told me they thought it was couscous. I didn't believe them because that's NOT what couscous looks like. I ate it anyway and it was pretty good. I haven't been motivated to make it myself though.

You should've shown us the dish! I'm sure it looked delicious! I doubt I'd find this here... We've only got regular packet couscous from Tesco.

I tried my first couscous in France as well. Then I never really thought about it again until the past year. It is easy to find in the grocery store hear and I bought some already flavored. The kids actually liked it so I've continue to fix it occasionally. You did well to come up with your own fixings to flavor it. Very inventive. I'm such a recipe follower.

I can't believe you had trouble finding those ingredients, in Paris of all places. Here in small-town (7,000 inhabitants) Sweden my grocery store carries all of those things. As for butternut squash, we ate one weekly from October to February and they were all imported from France! Hard to find in Paris? Incredible! :)

Those Israeli couscous look the same as the Lebanese moghrabiah I've been trying to convince the husband that we should try. He's kind of sceptical though since the cupboards are already overflowing with "exotic grains".

I came across your site.
It was lovely to read.
I know it's a number of years old...but I hope everything is going well with you..
I seem to be experiencing now what you have went through previously..with the dissolving of a marriage and meeting what seems to be a wonderful Frenchman.
I didn't think there was that big of a deal about him being French..but having been looking here online....apparently to find a Frenchman is a wonderful step to a loving relationship.
This one has kind of just fell in my lap *lol * I think it could be fate.

Well, if visiting Paris is what I need to do to lose some weight, then by golly I'll do it!! I expect any time I don't spend 7 hours of the day sitting on my arse behind my computer at work is going to help me trim down a bit.

Unbelievable! I've never particularly wanted to go to India (except to see the Taj Mahal), but looking through all your photos from this and the previous posts, I may have to add it to my list of places I want to see. Beautiful photos.

This losing weight stuff is TOUGH, isn't it? After months of watching what I eat, power walking for exercise, and now going to the gym regularly, I'm STILL not where I want to be. Good for you for losing 20 pounds so far! Keep it up! You can do it!

The closest gym to my house in Provence is a half an hour away in a bigger town but I joined about a year ago. I went regularly for about 6 weeks. It took my entire morning so I soon gave up. Three hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoons four days a week is all the time I have without kids. I switched to video's and am actually disciplined enough to do them. This is just to keep off extra weight since I can't give up my cheese and wine habit.

Well it was definitely worth the slog, and a very pleasant journey!! A fabulous travel journal Linda, should be published in a book!

I love the sound of the colors and people and the pics you took brought it all together. Almost worth 'Delhi belly' right?

I'm hoping to keep a journal while in Africa in May - there will be so much to remember and I need to get it all down on paper day by day. I'm hoping my tummy doesn't go beserk while there!

By the way dear, congrats. on the weight loss - I must try harder. Once it warms up I'll be out walking more.

Bob and I send hugs.

Wow! 20 pounds is awesome. I'd celebrate with some chocolate, but that is probably why I exercise like crazy and haven't lost 20 pounds. Congrats.
