2011

We’ve had unseasonably warm weather here in Paris and I went to the Luxembourg Gardens to get some photos of their autumn flowers and some trees that still have fall colors.

The Medici fountain there is lines with mums.

Closer to the other end of the fountain.

I always love these urns and they almost always put in purplish mums in them each year.

There’s a smaller replica of the Statue of Liberty which looks great against the yellow of the tree behind it.

I always love the long strips of shade in autumn.

All alone.

For quite a few years girls have been leaving “kisses” on the tomb of Oscar Wilde at the Pere Lachaise Cemetery. I read that the lipstick itself was causing damage to the tomb so they have surrounded it with a see through plastic wall.

Here it is with the lipstick kisses all over.

You can see that the stone is absorbing the lipstick.

A look at the Assyrian God with its lips also colored.

Now here it is all clean with with the wall around it. I’m surprised they didn’t cover the whole thing as I can see someone climbing over.

As you can see, kisses are being left on the plastic wall itself.

While I was there, two girls started putting on lipstick and I knew they were planning on leaving some lipstick grafitti.

As you can see here.

There is an artist, a photographer really, called J.R. who has never identified himself except with those initials. A quote about him: He has described himself as a “photograffeur”, he flyposts large black-and-white photographic images in public locations in a manner which is similar to the appropriation of the built environment by the graffiti artist. He states that the street is “the largest art gallery in the world.” He started out on the streets of Paris. There was a recent display of some of his work here in Paris.

This is what you see as you approach the building where the exhibit is located.

A photo of work he did in India. The bottom part of the faces were on buildings. The top parts were on trains and the face would change as the train moved.

This photo was sliced into strips which were each place on a step. You could only see the whole thing from a distance. There was another photo showing the same thing a few months later and it was slowly fading and tearing. He doesn’t do them to last. Rain and weather slowly make them disappear.

Right down the street from the beautiful store, Merci, is a children’s store called Bon Ton. It’s full of really great things for children but it’s very expensive. All I bought were some cake decorations in the pirate theme.

The cute decorations in the window.

I thought this was interesting-photos of children with “real” clothing glued on, sort of decopage. I’m not sure if I could pull this off or not.

A sweet little display.

Isn’t this lovely? I’m sure a little girl would love to wear this.

Toy animal heads for decorating a wall. Loved them.

Merci is a concept store in Paris that I have written about before. They have Christmas decorations up now and it looks great.

Christmas trees hanging from the glass dome.

Stars on the walls.

And the usual little red car is there in the courtyard surrounded by Christmas trees.

I was up in Montmartre with the daughter of an Internet friend, Paulita, and we had a fabulous cool sunny day to have a look around.

We saw some French school children excited to find I Love You in French on the Love Wall.

I missed most of the red leaves of Autumn while I was gone but loved this little line of leaves on a tomb in St Vincent’s Cemetery.

A statue on the tomb of Utrillo there.

The sun was shining through the windows of the little church. The columns sort of looked lit from inside as if they were transparent.
