Here and There

We went up above the Seine at street level too on our morning excursion.

Open for business at last.
We decided to have a little Parisian breakfast here. It was so nice to be able to do that again.
Here’s what we had. A Parisian treat, a petit dejuner.
A small climb heading toward the Marais area.
I love this sign above a wine shop.
The back of a statue of Saint Genevieve, patron saint of Paris done by the same artist that made the statue of Christ with the open arms above Rio.

Another Day Another Walk

We met at the Orsay Museum again for another walk.

A long boat serenely going by the Orsay Museum.
A statue of Thomas Jefferson. He was the ambassador to France before he became president of the USA.
The gardens are now open. This was the first day to enter the Tuleries Gardens. It was pretty empty at 8 am but I bet it was really full by the afternoon.
The flowers bloomed even though there was no one there to see them.

Quiet

My blog was down for a few days and during this time when so many places are closed, I didn’t think I could get it fixed but here I am. We in France are in confinement for at least two more weeks. I’m betting we will be confined the rest of the summer myself. I plan to wear a mask for a very long time. Here are a few photos I’ve taken when I’ve been out.

Maurice and I in front of our Monoprix. I hate to go in there as it’s so crowded but they seem to have the best selection. Not everyone in the store is wearing a mask, not even the employees.
The Seine looking peaceful as the sun sets. We aren’t allowed to walk along the river anymore.
A lovely reflection of the Eiffel Tower on the smooth water of the Seine.
I made a martini the other evening but they sort of make me sick so I guess I’ll stick to wine.

I hope everyone out there is doing as well as can be expected. Thanks for dropping by.

Around Paris

Another mix of photos as I showed family around Paris.

I saw these dramatic clouds which led to a hard rain storm.
Notre Dame under reconstruction.
An old shutter on an old window in the Latin Quarter.
This corner is often seen on Instagram.
The area around the Seine is starting to flood.
I think this was etched glass and thought it was so pretty.
Saint Severin Church with its famous columns.
The Abby Bookstore.
The marvellous tapestry at the Cluny Museum: The Lady and the Unicorn.

Life continues on here in Paris. We are still being very compliant although I have heard there are young people walking around in large crowds up on Montmartre. I would like to write the managers of Monoprix to complain about the stocking of shelves while customers shop trying to get by their large carts. It makes social distancing very difficult. I noticed that most of the frozen fish was gone whatever that means and jam, or confiture, is getting scarce. I read a very interesting article on how HEB in the States is handing this health crisis as they did during Hurricane Katrina. I wish they were running the health systems. It takes clear thinking and good planning. I am now watching Ozark on Netflix which is very violent but so suspenseful that I keep watching. The Mexican cartel is very dangerous but they don’t have anything on the locals living in the Ozarks. There were drugs in the Norwegian series, Borderliner, too. A world wide problem. I’m so happy we are in our relatively new apartment with great views and lots of light and that almost all of the refurbishing was finished before the Virus hit. Soon, we will all be out again in a hopefully healthy world.

Visitors

My Daughter in Law and Granddaughter are visiting us from Texas (this was before we all went into isolation. They were told to do self isolation when they returned to the States.) The first thing we did was walk from our place to the Eiffel Tower.

A view with the Eiffel Tower behind the carousel.
The Seine is running high as you can see. The ducks are in an area you can usually walk on and no boats are running as they can’t get under the bridge.
We showed them the Statue of Liberty of course.
The Seine is usually smooth running but choppy and roilling right now.
We visited the Beaugrenelle shopping centre too.
Seen in a restaurant. I love French handwriting.
Did you know that Napoleon read the Wall Street Journal? Who knew?

Another Sunny Day

You never know when there is going to be rain in Paris. I’ve learned that if there are showers, there are often clouds, blue skies and brilliant light so I try and get out then.

The Seine always looks good in sunlight.
The Tuleries Garden is nice. There were piles of leaves everywhere. I’m glad I’m not in charge of cleaning up this garden.
The Tuleries Garden also has a nice carousel.
Christmas is coming as you can see looking down to Place Vendome.
The famous Crillon Hotel in the sun.
