Light

There is something special about Autumn light and the sunrises and sunsets can be spectacular, especially in Paris.

Seen on a corner one evening.
Rather dramatic.
A colorful sunrise.
I can’t always see the sunset from my apartment but if I see some clouds and blue sky, I go outside to find a beautiful sky like this.
It’s nice to get the Statue of Liberty in the shot as well.

Sunset

I think Paris has the best sunsets in the Autumn which has just begun. I like the light early and late in the day as well. Here are a few sunsets I saw in just a couple of days.

Looking out my window. I wish I had been outside for this one.
The hot air ballon (tethered) in Parc Andre Citroën and the back of the Statue of liberty in a soft sunset.
Turning around to see the Eiffel Tower.
A boat heading toward the Eiffel Tower which is sparkling but very hard to capture in a photo.
The same boat in a photo that I filtered probably too much.

High Water

Every time I looked at my weather app I would get a message for flooding but Paris seemed dry to me except for some light rain. Then I went to the window that has a slight view of the Seine that I have if I press my forehead against it, and found that the Seine was high so it was flooding somewhere.

The walking path along the river is covered by water.
You can usually walk in front of the area in front of the Statue of Liberty.
Pretty light on the Seine.
Another view.
It was 5 PM and we have to be in our places for the 6 PM curfew but I was near the bus that takes one to Pont Alma, just 6 stops, so I hopped on to get a photo of this statue, long used to show flooding on the Seine. I have seen the water half way up it so not too bad.
Next to the bridge is the small Queen Astrid Park (she was once Queen of Sweden, then Belgium but tragically died at the age of 34 in a car accident). These two women holding hands represent France and Belgium after a war pledging friendship.

I have had cramps in my legs before, the type that have you getting out of bed to stand to help them go away but never in my feet but now I am getting up to stand next to my bed to get the cramps in one foot or another to stop. I looked up the reason and it is from the feet becoming flatter and tightening tendons, etc. I put inserts into my shoes and do exercises with my toes trying to pick up a towel from the floor with them and as I was looking on the Internet for other things to do I came upon the old method of putting a bar of soap at your feet between the sheets as you sleep at night. You can even use lavender scented soap so the fragrance can help you sleep. You don’t even need to unwrap the soap. It turns out that soap emits magnesium which somehow helps your foot cramps. I just happened to have a bar of soap that I bought in Italy years ago sitting in a cupboard-does anyone use bars of soap anymore? I don’t. It’s all liquid soap in containers for me as I find soap in its hardened form dries my skin too much and it always makes a big mess in the soap dish. And would you believe that I have fewer feet cramps? Isn’t that something? Who knew?

Last Chance

I am obsessed with weather and often think I should have become a meteorologist instead of a nurse. I look at my weather app on my phone several times a day. I noticed yesterday that there will be a lot of rain in the coming days so early in the evening I forced myself to go out for a short walk, especially since I had spent all day mostly on my couch watching TV. I’m glad I did. It was the last chance before the rain arrived.

I was happy to see a tourist boat on the river pretty full of tourists and wonder if that will be the case when the government starts confinement again-at least that is the rumour (which was true). Also, this is a bad time to see the Eiffel Tower as it has netting on the top part and a whole lot of ugly scaffolding underneath as they do refurbishment. Whenever I see a photo on instagram and the tower isn’t covered with that “girdle” I know it isn’t recent.
The sun setting behind the Statue of Liberty.
Further down the path.
This isn’t a very attractive bridge in my opinion-trains cross it-but a sun set can make a lot of difference.
Luckily my camera was on as I headed back home to catch this guy doing a handstand. I don’t know why. His friend wasn’t taking his photo.

Night Shots

These are some shots I took one night when it was still warm. We went to the base of the Statue of Liberty and I was hoping to get neat photos as the tour boats went under the bridge. The boats have lights that show you underneath bridges as you float along but I found out the bridge where we were is unattractive and not worth photos but I got a few shots of the statue and the Eiffel Tower. (Regarding my knee, I got what they called an infiltration where local anaesthetic is injected into the knee joint. It really hurt but seems to be helping. In part of the joint I no longer have the protective padding and that’s what led to the pain-the old bone against bone thing. Later the doctor will inject the product that provides a little protection. Maurice and I are going on what is called the “Cure” where various treatments, sort of spa like, are provided for things like arthritis in a couple of weeks. I’m interested to see how, and if, it helps.)

Pretty in the distance.
From behind.
I was in the wrong place to get the full tower flashing.
From down below. I found out that the base of the statue is sort of party central for young people at night. They had drinks and a lot of them were smoking and I guess it was like a free night club for them. They weren’t rowdy or anything but I noticed overflowing trash cans the next morning.

The Neighborhood

We’ve been exploring our new neighborhood and really like it. It’s very lively as they say.

A sunrise seen very early one morning by the Paris Weather Girl (me).
Our neighborhood Statue of Liberty.
We found a nice café near us too. Here is the bartender shaking up my martini behind the lit up bar. The drink wasn’t very good so next time I will stick to wine.
I like their chairs. The menu looked good too.
A reflection of the fancy light fixture in an opulent mirror. I love fancy interiors.
