Linda Mathieu's experiences living as an American expat in France
Taormina
Our last stop is a village called Taormina. It’s a very crowded place but enchanting nontheless. There’s a photo op on every corner.
A view of a former monastary, now a hotel owned by Bill Gates who loves it here. One of many churches there. The entry to the city hall.A Dior store as you can see but the building behind it was once used for visits by Tennessee Williams, the writer. Who knew? There was, of course, a Roman ampitheatre, once Greek. When you see arcs and red brick, it’s Roman.A view from the top of the ampitheatre with Mount Enta in the distance. Ampitheatres were often positioned differently but they decided it was important to face the volcano. It often smokes and you only worry if there is black smoke. Seven tourists were killed last year when it quickly erupted.I like how this restaurant has the tables placed up the stairs.
